Stump Grinding

Besides being an eye sore, stumps often attract rodents and insects — termites, carpenter ants, wood bees, and more love to make a home in your tree stumps. Often these creatures will migrate into your home as well.

Grinding stumps is generally preferred to removing stumps. Grinding will leave the stump in the ground where it will eventually decompose. It gives you a clean slate for future landscape design. Removing the stump, on the other hand, is more invasive and may involve the use of chemicals that can cause disturbances to the surrounding soil.

A stump grinder chews away at the stump of wood that’s left after a tree has been cut. Stump grinders use powerful, rotating blades that rip into the wood as it turns. The blade’s teeth cut the stump into small pieces. This results in lots and lots of wood chips. They can be used as mulch on-site.
